How it all began

Back in late 2015, Harshani and Brett were two of the 22 million people looking for someone on the dating app, Bumble. Bumble is the dating app where women make the first move. You get 24 hours to message the girl or guy they swipe and match with…or else the match disappears.

“She looked like an extraordinary person — someone who was full of life and absolutely stunning” according to Brett, made him swipe right on Harshani’s profile.

It was a long wait for Brett, who after 23 hours and 40 minutes was worried he’d lost his chance with Harshani. Then, with 20 minutes to go, Harshani finally typed the infamous opening line: “hey”.

Harshani would like to blame her lack of effort on jet lag after just getting back from multiple work trips abroad. But reality is, it could have just been a typical girl overthinking what to write and going with a simple line. Though, it did work!

Fast forward through a week of digital sparks, the two decided to meet in person.

The first date

For dinner, they went to a Williamsburg restaurant, again under the pretense of all things casual and unofficial.

“He was such a gentleman, and did all the cheesy things that made my heart flutter," Harshani recounts. "I felt like he was genuinely a good guy, thoughtful, and made me laugh the entire time. I loved that we liked the same music and the outdoors."

“Within minutes we were in a deep and meaningful conversation about the things that matter - family, values, travel, plans for the future. Our conversation was effortless, even though I felt I was being interviewed. And of course she was beautiful, inside and out, I couldn’t look away” said Brett.

The first date was nothing extravagant, but it made all the difference.

Six years later

For the next three months, a spiral of dates led to long conversations that closed every restaurant, bar, and music hall they entertained. Not long after when Brett invited Harshani to a family holiday in Turks and Caicos, they made things official.

Now their lives are filled with TV marathons, Radiohead concerts, poorly prepared hiking trips, cat cuddles with their furry baby Nara, and lots of open, honest communication (always with Brett’s full attention, ahem).

Their love for world adventure has led to falling down cliffs in Hawaii, dancing with penguins in Australia, climbing the highest Atlantic mountain in the Azores, and circumnavigating Iceland in less than a week.

And the rest is history

Brett still remembers the first day meeting Harshani and telling his best friend, “I really like this girl. Between us there is so much love, trust, fun, and adventure.”

Harshani reflects, “With Brett, we always knew we were each other’s forever.”

They are excited to celebrate their special day with close friends and family that have helped to bring them together.
